Meaning & Origin
Menashe is a boy's baby name of Hebrew origin, the Hebrew form of Manasseh, meaning 'causing to forget' or 'he who makes to forget.' In the Bible, Manasseh was the firstborn son of Joseph and Asenath, and Joseph declared that God had made him forget his hardship through this child.
Menashe is used primarily within Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish communities, where biblical names in their original Hebrew forms are preferred over their anglicized equivalents. The 2017 film Menashe, shot in Yiddish in Brooklyn, brought the name to wider cultural awareness.
