Meaning & Story
Reno takes its name from the American city in northwestern Nevada, which in turn honors General Jesse Lee Reno, a Union officer killed in the Civil War. The general's surname derives from the French town of Renaud, itself from the Germanic 'Reginwald.' The city's slogan — 'The Biggest Little City in the World' — captures a certain outsized personality in a compact package.
Reno has the quick, confident energy of its Western city namesake — a place that operates by its own rules and has a talent for spectacle. It suits a pet with big personality packed into a compact frame: a small dog with an enormous attitude, or any animal who seems to believe that size is entirely irrelevant. The Nevada city's long history as a place of reinvention also gives the name a sense of fresh starts and bold moves. Reno is not a name for a wallflower.
