Jersey

Jersey takes its name from the largest of the Channel Islands, a British Crown dependency between England and France. The island name likely derives from Old Norse Geirr (a personal name) plus ey (island). In modern culture Jersey is also associated with the famous dairy cattle breed and, of course, with the state of New Jersey — giving it both pastoral and urban American associations.
