Meaning & Story
Coraline is the name of the protagonist in Neil Gaiman's dark fantasy novella, a name Gaiman invented by accidentally typing Caroline with an o. It has a mysterious, slightly Gothic beauty that is entirely its own.
Coraline is for the pet with those particular button-black eyes and the slightly eerie calm that makes you wonder what they're really thinking. Like the character, a Coraline is brave, curious, and not easily fooled — the cat who investigates everything methodically, who never panics, and who has almost certainly found the secret door that you haven't noticed yet.
